Vision reminder from Pete

We are now averaging around 4,000 people in our services each week, but he says it doesn’t feel like it because of community groups.
Everybody’s welcome. Nobody’s perfect. Anything’s possible. This is the environment we seek to create in our church as a whole and in our groups.
Everybody’s welcome. When it comes to our groups, everybody’s welcome. Jesus accepted people from all walks of life. And when we open up our homes each week…we do too. Sometimes there are crazy things shared. Sometimes we can all be a little high maintenance. Sometimes we have people who could not be more different than each other in community. But we need to create a safe environment where everybody knows they are welcome.
Nobody’s perfect. That’s why they are welcome. The environment in community groups is one where we can talk about imperfect things. Pete continues to share the most powerful group experiences he has had began with someone gaining enough courage to share a sin struggle. Nothing brings more community than confessing sin. As a leader, create that environment. Share at the beginning and set the expectation, nobody’s perfect.
Anything’s possible. Sustained life change happens best in the context of community and in the crisis of transformation. Challenge your group. Open God’s word together and talk about what it looks like in your lives. Leaders are on the front lines to challenge people and reinforce that it is not only possible, but a fundamental expectation to grow in Christ-likeness. You will be there to speak truth when important things are shared in that crisis of transformation moment. Anything’s possible when we understand and live this out together.
How can you help set the expectation in your group that everybody’s welcome, nobody’s perfect and anything’s possible?

Chris Surratt is the Spiritual Formation Pastor at Cross Point Church. We believe that spiritual formation and sustained life-change happen best when you are circled up in homes, not lined up in pews. That is why it is our desire for every Cross Point attender to be in a life giving community group. Continue The Conversation is a resource for our community to carry the message on Sundays into their daily lives.
