What Can We Do About Childcare?

This is a question that we hear a lot from community groups. You can be assured that you and your group are not alone trying to figure this out. While many adults have a genuine desire to get connected in a small group, childcare challenges are very common.

You can also be assured that there are solutions and thousands of groups of all types have solved this challenge and found a way to meet on a regular basis.

Here are some ideas:

1. Each family makes arrangements for their own childcare needs. This is the most common solution.

2. The group may decide to pitch in and hire a baby sitter that will come to the house where the meeting is or to another house nearby. The sitter could be one of the older children of a family that attends the group.

3. The group may decide to take turns watching the children in another room of the house or in another house nearby.

4. The group may be able to work out a co-op relationship with another group that meets on another night.

5. The group could have one of their meetings each month be a family game night where kids are invited to participate.

6. The group could have one of their meetings each month be a family discussion of the Kidz World virtue of the month. FX provides an amazing resource that could be adapted to this.
